SNEHADHARA
COMPREHENSIVE AYURVEDIC PALLIATIVE CARE PROGRAMME- IMPLEMENTED BY INDIAN SYSTEMS OF MEDICINE DEPARTMENT
Introduction
Palliative care is an approach that improves the quality of life of patients and their families facing the problem associated with life-threatening illness, through the prevention and relief of suffering by means of early identification and impeccable assessment and treatment of pain and other problems, physical, psychosocial and spiritual.
The present scenario of Kerala is confined to nuclear family system, which eventually lead to negligence in proper care of bedridden patients by the family. Govt of Kerala is focusing their utmost attention in this social problem and taking necessary steps to give proper care to palliative group patients. In this regard ISM department is planning to implement the project SNEHADHARA as a pilot project in Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur and Kazargode Districts.
This project is currently put up by the direction of NIYAMASABHA Subject commitee 12 (H&FWD) Dtd 24/4/2013
AIM
- Provides relief from pain and other distressing symptoms.
- Affirms life and regards dying as a normal process.
- Integrates the psychological and spiritual aspects of patient care.
- Offers a support system to help patients live as actively as possible until death.
- Offers a support system to help the family cope during the patient illness and in their own bereavement;
- Uses a team approach to address the needs of patients and their families, including bereavement counseling, if needed.
