Ksharasutra
Ksharasutra is an Ayurvedic parasurgical procedure which is mainly used for treating anorectal diseases like piles, fistula, fissure-in-ano and pilonidal sinus. In this technique, a specially prepared medicated thread known as Ksharasutra is used to cure the diseases. Piles, fistula and fissure-in-ano are the common embarrassing and painful conditions occurring in the anal region. They keep on annoying the patients at all times and also stain bottom with blood, pus and other discharges.
Ksharasuthra project was started in the year 2013 at Govt. Ayurveda Hospital Chelakkara, Thrissur, District Ayurveda Hospital, Idukki and District Ayurveda Hospital, Kozhikode. Around 4,000 patients per year are being benefited out of this project.
Benefits of Ksharasutra treatment
Lower rate of recurrence, minimum hospitalisation, little damage to anal sphincters and negligible chances of faecal incontinence and cost effectiveness are the major advantages of ksharasutra over modern surgical methods.
