Ayush tribal medical unit is conducting the medical camps (Ayurveda, Siddha and Homoeo) in 15 panchayaths of Kannur district. Thillankery, Kolayad, Kottiyur, Kelakam, Peravoor, Padiyoor, Payyavoor, Cherupuzha, Muzhakkunnu, Kanichar, Ulikkal, Eramam Kuttoor, Peringome Vayakkara, Chittariparamba Grama Panchayats (GP) and Iritty Municipality were selected for implementation of this project. The backward colonies in these Panchayats were selected with the help of tribal extension office.

The colonies where there is no medical centre or hospitals nearby were selected. Illam and Sankarankandi colonies (Thillankery GP), Nariyalappoyil and Vadakkiniyillam colonies (Muzhakkunnu GP), Karoth and Chalil colonies (Kolayad GP), Aringottukandi colony (Chittariparamba GP), Mele Mandamchery, Thazhe Mandamchery and Nelliyodi colonies (Kottiyur GP), Perunthanam, Valayanchal and Nananippoyil colonies (Kelakam GP), Edappara, Parangodu and Kalakudumb colonies (Peravur GP), Chavassery township colony (Iritty Municipality), Aryancodu, Manneri, Chalamvayal and Mankuzhi colonies (Padiyoor GP), Cheethappara and Chittari Kuttimavu colonies (Payyavoor GP), Kumbangodu, Kayani and Puravayal Ambedkar colonies (Ulikkal GP), Anungodu and Attanchery colonies (Kanichar GP), Kakkara and Kayappoyil colonies (Eramam Kuttur GP), Vangad colony (Peringome Vayakkara GP), Kanamvayal and Pattathuvayal colonies (Cherupuzha GP). 

The tribal communities in these colonies include Paniyar, Kurichyar, Malavettuvar, Karimbalar and Mavilar sects. Each medical system conducts 11 camps and total 33 camps fortnightly. Medical units include Medical Officer, multipurpose worker and medicines. Medical camps and awareness classes are conducted with the help of tribal promoters, ASHAs and Anganvadi workers.

 The diseases commonly found in colonies are anaemia, malnutrition, weight loss, viral diseases, orthopaedic complaints, low back ache, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, cervical spondylitis, peri arthritis, fever, cough, constipation, haemorrhoids, varicose veins, asthma, breathing difficulties, skin diseases like scabies, eczema, dandruff, fungal infections, ringworm infections, cataract, conjunctivitis, hypertension, migraine, leucorrhea, dysmenorrhoea, giddiness etc.
