VIVA (The abbreviation of Vilarchayil Ninnum Valarchayilekku in Malayalam) is an anaemia prevention project which is to be inaugurated on 18-02-2023 by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Kerala. This project is jointly organized by the departments of Health and Family Welfare and Women and Child Development of Government of Kerala.

The campaign aims anaemia screening, treatment and awareness among girls and women aged 15 to 59 years. The Indian Systems of Medicine Department is also playing a vital part in this campaign. During the last year, the department had organised a program ‘Arunima’ in association with National Ayush Mission (NAM) and Ayurveda Medical Association of India (AMAI). 2,020 awareness classes on good food habits were conducted through the 258 ICDS units across the state and 1,30,254 people have been addressed through these. The classes were managed jointly by Medical Officers of the department and members of AMAI. The district level activities are co-ordinated by district level Nodal Officers and district co-ordinators.

 

Haemoglobinometer along with strips are provided to every institution. Thus, haemoglobin levels can be regularly monitored and recorded. Recipes which are useful in cases of anaemia will be circulated among public with the help of Kudumbasree units. Classes will be focussed on anemia, good food practices and lifestyle modifications to be done. Activities like conducing cookery workshops will be implemented by National Ayush Mission.
