Autism
WHO defines autism spectrum disorders (asd) as “a diverse group of conditions characterised by some degree of difficulty with social interaction and communication. Other characteristics are atypical patterns of activities and behaviours, such as difficulty with transition from one activity to another, a focus on details and unusual reactions to sensations.”
Early detection and interventions can help improve patient’s adaptability skills and better socialization eventually. Ayurveda medicines definitely help in enhancing these capabilities in the affected group.
In this perspective ‘autism project’ was initiated by Kollam district panchayath at district ayurveda hospital, kollam, on 2018. Since then specialized assessment modules and therapeutic managements are being successfully implemented in the centre. Social awareness is achieved through periodical medical camps, awareness classes for common mass and affected families at various autism centres.
