Since many experts have predicted the possibility of a COVID-19 third wave in the country that would probably affect children of different age groups, scaling up various activities to prevent the pandemic in the said group is essential. Department of Ayush, Government of Kerala, through the State Ayurveda COVID-19 Response Cell (SACRC), has been implementing several Ayurvedic programmes to prevent, mitigate and rehabilitate COVID-19 in the state by coordinating all the Ayurvedic departments. Because the vaccination for the under 18 age group had not begun in the country, the Ayush department extended the benefit of the Ayurvedic preventive medicines to them through a targeted strategy. Hence,the programme KIRANAM was initiated - the Ayurvedic Preventive Strategy for COVID- 19 in children. Govt has examined the matter in detail and are pleased to approve the project for the purpose named Kiranam for the prophylactic care in children during covid 19 by the order (GO(Rt) No. 386/2021(A)/AYUSH; dated, Thiruvananthapuram, 26.10.2021.

Kiranam programmes

  • Awareness classes conducted by M.Os of ISM.
  • Surveillance programmes conducted at schools
  • Fumigation carried out in school premises
  • Mild, moderate symptomatic patients are treated with Ayurvedic medicines.
