Geriatric Care

Geriatric care project launched by the Indian Systems of Medicine Department aims to increase the quality of life of the elderly population and to reduce the effects of morbidity in old age. Through the project, treatment facility and care are provided for diseases of the elderly, aged 60 yrs or more. Eligible patients will receive 28 days free inpatient treatment including medicines and therapy and also three months of follow up treatment. This facility can be availed at selected Government Ayurveda Hospitals in all the districts of the state.

Outcomes of the project

  • The project was successful in delivering free medical, psycho-social and rehabilitative care.

  • The functional status of patients improved.

  • The medical care cost was also considerably reduced.

  • There was better performance of instrumental or daily activities.

  • The patients had a greater autonomy and better control of certain pathology and physical limitations.

  • They had improved life satisfaction, self-esteem, functional skills, activities, participation and social interaction.
