AYUSH is deeply integrated into Kerala's healthcare landscape and a significant population in the state utilizes AYUSH for their healthcare and disease management needs. The department of Indian Systems of Medicine which encompasses Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani and Sidha under AYUSH umbrella serves as a key public provider of traditional medicine services for the people of Kerala. Recognizing its significant responsibility to deliver high quality - evidence based health care to the civic, the Ayurveda Research Team (ART) was formed under the Department of Indian Systems of Medicine. The team, with a Chairman, Convener and representatives from all districts focuses on documentation, research and publication to scientifically validate the clinical activities and survey findings from plan projects and other initiatives. The present team, formed on June 7, 2024, has successfully conducted online and offline meetings and classes on research updates, improved data collection and documentation for plan projects and prepared research proposals (survey-based, observational, qualitative, and quantitative interventional works) that are now proceeding through the approval process with the Scientific Advisory Board and Ethical Committee. The data collection, documentation, analysis, impactful results and the publications are aimed to drive measurable improvements in health outcomes, enhanced accountability & transparency in service delivery, continuous quality improvement among Medical Officers leading to superior care, acceptance of the system worldwide, evidence-based practices and significant global reach. Ultimately, this will directly strengthen the public health delivery system of ISM and thereby benefitting the everyday individual seeking care from ISM institutions.
