This project started functioning in AVM GAH Irinjalakuda ,Since 2019-2020 under LSGD . Diabetic retionopathy is one of the major complication of diabetes that affects more than half of the population and can cause vision loss and blindness in peoples . So early diagnosis of diabetic retionopathy can help to protect the vision .This project aims to provide ayurvedic treatment for early diabetic retinopathy changes and prevention of its complication in diabetic patients . Risk of diabetic retinopathy can be lowered by controlling diabetic mellitus . Through this project , ayurvedic internal medicines are provided with their current prescribed medicines from other systems to lower the risk of diabetes.

Patients are selected from OPD , based on the visual acuity test and retinopathic fundus changes . For most of the selected cases ,OP treatments are adopted . Assessment of the visual acuity and retinal examinations of these patients are done in equilant intervals . For complicated cases Ip treatments including panchakarma therapies and special procedures like thalapothichil , mukhalepam , sirodhara , tharpanam etc are provided to prevent blindness due to diabetic retinopathy . Though life style diseases like diabetes are must common among population , regular eye exams , good control of blood sugar and early ayurvedic intervention for vision problems can help to prevent severe vision loss . Hence this project is a need of present era and many diabetic patients are approaching to OPD for this project .
